The Department of Swedish, University of Gothenburg, announces a fully funded four-year PhD position for graduate studies in natural language processing. The PhD work will be conducted in the Swedish FrameNet++ project (funded by the Swedish Research Council and the University of Gothenburg; see www.sprakbanken.gu.se/swe/swefn).

Raquel Fernandez is Assistant Professor (UD) in Dialogue Modelling at the Institute for Logic, Language & Computation (ILLC), University of Amsterdam. Her research is mostly concerned with the semantics and pragmatics of linguistic interaction.

Shalom Lappin, Professor of Computational Linguistics, King's College London is visiting the Dialogue Technology Lab from 16th April to 11th May.  During his stay he will be giving a lecture course, Computational Learning Theory and Language Acquisition.  The course will meet

The treebank is built upon the FraCaS textual inference problem set, which was built in the mid 1990’s by the FraCaS project, a large collaboration aimed at developing resources and theories for computational semantics.

The Dialogue Technology Lab announces a two year postdoc. Research in the Dialogue Technology Lab includes dialogue system building based on the information state update approach, theoretical work on dialogue semantics in particular semantic coordination and learning through interaction, empirical work on spoken dialogue corpora and mobile communication, and forensic phonetics. Research topics of particular interest for this position include but are not limited to:

  • machine learning techniques relating to adaptive information state dialogue systems
  • computational semantics (in particular relating to logic and type-theory based systems)
  • speech technology relating to spoken dialogue systems
  • integration of dialogue technology and the web (such as cloud-based speech technology, web-based dialogue systems, dialogue systems in relation to the semantic web)
